Propagate, care and plant strawberry plants

Since the size of the fruit and yield of strawberries decrease with each year, after three to four years at the latest, the crop should be completely renewed and a new strawberry bed should be planted in a different place in the garden. August is the ideal time for this.

After the first strawberries could be picked already at the end of May, the main harvest is now due in June. By the way, the strawberry season can be extended many times over by planting suitable varieties: Monthly strawberries or remontant varieties such as 'Mara des Bois', for example, bear until the first frost.

At the latest at the main harvest time, it can be seen which strawberry plants bear particularly well. Only so-called best bearers should be used for propagation, because low-yielding mother plants usually pass on this negative characteristic to the young plants.
