It's been that time again for a few days now. The windows need cleaning. In fact, they've been wanting it for a while. But not everyone gets what they want. Of course, I also like to have a clear view. But as is the case with perception: when I see someone again after months, I notice changes more than when I see him (or her) every day. It's the same with my windows. I see them every day - and think: I can still do it. At least for a while. Until I realize that I need to clear things up. So it's time to start cleaning. And because housework is real work, I need good tools: a window squeegee. Just any window squeegee? No, this window squeegee! Its metal parts are made of solid brass. Which appeals to me. According to the (perhaps somewhat clichéd) motto: "When it shines golden, sounds metallic, my heart leaps in my body." Then the wiper blade. It is made of vulcanized natural rubber. And it is "precisely cut from meter pieces - with an absolutely flat, durable profile edge that ensures superior wiping performance." That tells me straight away: this is a case of doing things by the meter, not by the bucketful. So: the tools are here, the mood is rising. Two buckets are prepared: one with water and homemade cleaning agent, one with clear water. Then we get started. First step: sweep the outside of the window. Second step: clean the windows with a lye solution and a cloth - discarded ribbed undershirts work well here. Third step: Wash the window with clear water - preferably with old chamois tanned deerskin. Finally, it's time: Wiper, take over! The windshield is wiped off in no time at all. At least that's how it seems to me. And it probably is, because with a width of 40 centimetres, it masters my large old windows in just a few strokes. Like many good tools, the window wiper can also be extended - with a telescopic rod that considerably increases its radius of use. And if the wiper blade ever wears out, I can always get a replacement. To replace it, all I have to do is loosen the two Phillips screws (colloquially known as Phillips screws) on the handle, replace the wiper blade and tighten the screws again. The same applies if I want to fit the second wiper blade, which is only 15 centimetres long - sometimes there are small areas to clean. In any case, my windows are streak-free and crystal clear again after using the window wiper. And I enjoy the clear view until one day the realization sets in again: The windows need cleaning. Then the fun starts all over again.
