The design of this scarf features a Vichy check. This variation of the check pattern takes its name from the French spa town of Vichy, where it became popular during the time of Napoleon Bonaparte. However, it didn’t achieve worldwide fame until Brigitte Bardot wore a wedding dress featuring the pattern—also known as gingham—in the 1950s. On this scarf, the Vichy check features an additional fine wavy texture. This is due to the very lightweight wool fabric being loosely woven. A narrow fringed border runs around all four sides.

Martine and Jacques Bijvoet are behind the Moismont label, which is based in Picardy, France. With their fashion, the two are committed to authenticity, traditions and values. It is therefore not surprising that their scarves and stoles, garments and bags combine French textile design and traditional Indian weaving. After all, the original scarf (which we understand to be worn more like a stole) once found its way from the Indian subcontinent to Europe. And this shawl culture is still very much alive in India today: Yarn dyeing, weaving and printing techniques are passed down from generation to generation there - in three carefully differentiated professions, each of which possesses and guards its own unique know-how.
