General Information
Makes work easier thanks to reduced weight
It is a long-standing tradition that garden spades with a narrow—and thus slightly lighter—blade are categorized under the term “women’s spades.” Even if this category seems somewhat outdated from today’s perspective, one of the undeniable advantages of such tools—classified as “small and light”—is their lower weight. If we add the reduced “operating weight” resulting from the blade’s smaller capacity—since it can, after all, move a smaller amount of soil—the main benefit is clear: With this spade, you can dig in your garden to your heart’s content without getting tired. And even if you’re looking for a planting spade that allows you to work undisturbed in existing beds with closely spaced plants, this forged spade is the tool of choice. Its blade edge is sharpened, and the specially integrated footrests make it easier to give it a little help with your foot if the soil happens to be very hard or crusted over.
Garden tools with character
The Krumpholz family knows a thing or two about forging. Based in the Franconian Forest, their ancestors acquired their first own hammer mill - the Guttenberger Hammer - in 1799 and were already producing tools and other everyday objects from forged iron back then. Today, the company's fortunes are in the hands of the eighth generation. The garden tools that leave the production site, which is still in its old location but has long since been modernized and expanded, are tools of the highest quality: shaped to their intended use under the weight of the forging hammer, compacted and reinforced where necessary, fitted with sharpened edges or blades and equipped with high-quality ash wood handles. Free-form forging, as practiced at Krumpholz, requires special skill and a sense of proportion. The steel used, a Swedish steel with a chrome-molybdenum content, is tough, strong and easy to clean.
