The cut and shredded stalks of the flax plant are laid out in a field. During the roasting process, which lasts several weeks, the pectins in the plant stalk are naturally released with the help of microorganisms and the solid wood components separate from the fibers. The released components are available to the soil as a natural fertilizer. The long fibers are then extracted by mechanical breaking, swinging and hackling. Field roasting is a resource-saving process in which alternatives such as water roasting or chemical roasting cannot compete. This is because these methods require a lot of water and energy and also pollute the environment with chemicals.
