This wild tulip, with its beautifully shaped, pink flowers and creamy-white center, is named after the famous Carolus Clusius. Although he was not the first to introduce the tulip to the Netherlands, he—the first director of the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden (1594–1609)—is widely credited with establishing the first major collections in what is now known as “Tulip Country.” The tulip bears several flowers per stem and blooms throughout April.

When you think of flower bulbs, you usually think of the colorful fireworks of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils in April and May.
