The seal determines the success of the canning process. This was true more than 100 years ago, when the Weck® principle was invented, and remains just as true today. An integral part of the sealing principle are the famous red rubber rings made of natural rubber with a thumb-width pull tab. Placed between the rim of the jar and the lid, they ensure an airtight seal. Thus, these rings are the key to safe canning and longer shelf life. Good to know: Unlike the canning clips, which you also need for the Weck® method, the canning rings are not reusable. Before use, clean them for about five minutes in boiling water with a splash of vinegar added.

These preserving jars from Weck® are so famous that the term “Einwecken” has long since become a household phrase. It’s great that, after a long hiatus, they’re now available from us again.
