Our tick remover, made of a single piece of 0.6 mm thick stainless steel, works on an amazingly simple principle. First, put the remover on the skin in such a position that the tick is in the middle of the large oval hole at the front end. Then apply slight pressure and pull the remover backwards along the line of the skin. As the hole gets narrower, the tick is trapped inside and can then be carefully removed without being squashed. This is all-important, since squashing the insect in the normal way greatly increases the risk of infection when its body fluid runs into the bite wound. The beautifully finished stainless steel tick pincers are just as safe and effective. The pincer head is held gently but firmly closed in the resting position, with the advantage for the user that, provided his aim is accurate, he can leave the rest – i.e. nipping the nasty insect – to the pincers.
