General Information

Chameleon in the change of seasons

The illustration from the pen of Teemu Järvi seems to adapt to the seasons: In autumn the placemat creates an autumnal mood, in Advent it goes well with Christmas wreath & co, but it can be used just as well in spring and summer. Lapuan Kankurit uses linen yarn from the best European long fiber flax (with the Masters of Linen® seal). The proportion of cotton (40%) provides the soft touch. With an average basis weight of 300 g/sqm, it is quite robust and durable. The jacquard woven illustration is shown on the reverse side in the opposite color. A matching table runner and a tea towel with this motif can also be found in our range.

Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi. Finnish-Finnish cooperation

The Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi collection is the result of a collaboration between the jacquard weaving mill Lapuan Kankurit in Lapua, Western Finland, and the Finnish illustrator Teemu Järvi. Both share a love of tradition and nature, aesthetics and natural materials. Lapuan Kankurit uses only natural raw materials, and traditional and newly developed processes intertwine in the production process, coupled with over 100 years of experience in its own weaving mill. Since 1917, all work steps, from spinning to setting up the looms and warping to weaving, have taken place at the company headquarters in Lapua in Ostrobothnia. Most of the clothing is made up in the company's own sewing workshop in Lithuania, with a small proportion also being made up in Lapua.

Teemu Järvi not only finds his motifs in nature, his drawing tools are also made from traditional, natural materials: black ink and self-made drawing pens, which he cuts from reeds (not bamboo, as is usually the case). For him, this is also an expression of his deep connection with Finnish nature, which has been both a creative cosmos and a haven of peace for Järvi since childhood. He draws animals and plants as he himself perceives them in what is usually only a brief moment of encounter, completely detaching them from their surroundings. This purely subjective perception results in an equally subjective rendering with its very own character. Teemu Järvi has been creating illustrations especially for the Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi collection since 2017.
