General Information
Artful kitchen aid
This kitchen apron is the result of a collaboration between Teemu Järvi and Lapuan Kankurit. The jacquard-woven, mottled gray cloth shows a fox from Järvi's pen, which is not only artfully drawn, but also skillfully woven into the cloth. The elaborate jacquard weave can also be seen on the back of the kitchen apron, where the motif is shown in the opposite color (so you can wear the apron inside out for variety or to hide cooking splashes).
For the linen yarn, Lapuan Kankurit uses the best European long-fiber flax (with the Masters of Linen® seal), which makes the strong fabric (300 g/sqm) very durable and absorbent - so you can wipe your wet hands on the apron. The 40% cotton content (organic) ensures that the fabric has a soft feel and the apron fits snugly around the body. The neck strap can be adjusted in length using a metal buckle and the apron has a pocket at the front. You can also find tea towels, table runners and placemats with Teemu Järvi motifs in our range.
Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi. Finnish-Finnish cooperation
The Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi collection is the result of cooperation between the Lapuan Kankurit jacquard weaving mill in Lapua, western Finland, and the Finnish illustrator Teemu Järvi. Both are united by the joy of tradition and nature, aesthetics and natural materials. Lapuan Kankurit uses only natural raw materials and produces in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner. In manufacturing, traditional and newly developed processes intertwine, coupled with the experience of over 100 years in their own weaving mill. Since 1917, all stages of production, from spinning to setting up the looms and warping to weaving, have taken place at the company's headquarters in Lapua in Ostrobothnia. Most of the garments are made up in the company's own sewing shop in Lithuania, with a small part also being made up in Lapua.
Teemu Järvi not only finds his motifs in nature, his drawing tools also consist of traditional, natural materials: black ink and self-made drawing pens, which he cuts from reed (not bamboo, as is usually the case). For him, this is also an expression of his deep connection with Finnish nature, which has been both a creative cosmos and a haven of peace for Järvi since childhood. He draws animals and plants as he perceives them himself in what is usually only a brief moment of encounter, detaching them entirely from their surroundings. From this purely subjective perception emerges an equally subjective rendering with a character all its own. Since 2017, Teemu Järvi has been designing illustrations especially for the Lapuan Kankurit x Teemu Järvi collection.
