General Information

Kitchen all-rounder. Artistic and practical

You may have already come across Teemu Järvi's illustrations here, whether as art prints, on calendar pages or postcards. They are ubiquitous in the artist's native Finland, especially since he started designing motifs for the Lapuan Kankurit weaving mill. We also like the home textiles with the nature-related illustrations, so we have added some to our range, including these tea towels with animal motifs. Woven as a jacquard pattern, they appear on the reverse of the linen fabric in a contrasting color.

Lapuan Kankurit uses linen yarn made from the best European long-fiber flax (with the Masters of Linen® seal) for the tea towels, making them durable and highly absorbent. A 40% organic cotton content ensures a soft feel. With an average basis weight of 300 g/sqm, the tea towels are quite robust and can also be used as a kitchen towel or as a substitute for a potholder. And if you prefer cooking to drying: you can also find a kitchen apron with the fox motif in our range.

Finland sends its regards. With illustrations by Teemu Järvi

Finnish illustrator Teemu Järvi finds the motifs for his prints and calendars on forays through his densely wooded homeland. In contrast to scientific depictions, he draws wild and domestic animals as he himself perceives them in what is usually only a very brief moment of encounter. In doing so, he removes them completely from their surroundings and concentrates on both their external appearance and their nature. This purely subjective approach results not only in an equally subjective rendering, but also in a component that cannot be explained rationally and that represents the character of the animals.

Järvi also concentrates on the elementary in his choice of drawing tools: He draws exclusively with black ink and self-made drawing pens, which he cuts from reeds (not bamboo, as is usually the case). The use of natural materials is also an expression of his deep connection with Finnish nature, which has been both a creative cosmos and a haven of peace for Järvi since childhood - and all the more important and valuable for the adult city dweller.
