A hiking backpack in a classic, slim design—with a large, unlined main compartment as well as several small pockets and compartments. Made from sturdy, durable virgin wool loden and cowhide leather, it offers two advantages: 1. The loden is lightweight, so the backpack weighs only 900 grams. 2. The materials are “silent,” meaning nothing rustles when you’re carrying or handling it, and there’s hardly any noise that could scare away animals—which is, of course, particularly advantageous for wildlife observation in nature. Because of these properties—durable, lightweight, and quiet—loden has traditionally been used in forestry and hunting for bags, backpacks, and clothing. The loden used here comes from the “ Gebrüder Mehler ” textile factory in the Upper Palatinate, which you may already be familiar with from our product range. Made from Argentine virgin wool (sourced mulesing-free), this loden features a fabric weight of 480 g/sqm; it is robust, breathable, and naturally water-repellent. This is due to the fulling process, which further densifies the fabric.

To ensure everything has its place while on the go yet remains easily accessible, the hiking backpack features a zippered compartment and smaller pockets within the large main compartment. With no further compartments and a base area of 15 × 30 centimeters, it offers plenty of space for everything you need to carry while hiking or in everyday life. Small items can be stored within easy reach in the three exterior compartments. One of them—like the main compartment—closes with a flap and a leather strap. All straps and carrying loops are made of oiled nubuck leather. For lasting comfort on longer hikes, the shoulder straps are padded with 3-millimeter-thick wool felt. Incidentally, the backpack is named after the Tannhorn, a 2,221-meter-high mountain (the second-highest) on the Brienzergrat in the Bernese Oberland.

Please note: The oiled nubuck leather used for the straps and leather trim is a natural material. After tanning, it is simply oiled and may therefore transfer color to light-colored fabrics when exposed to heavy perspiration. However, this discoloration can usually be washed out using appropriate detergents.
