General Information
Holy birds in the Christmas tree
Christmas table decorations, festive room and window decorations or as part of a mobile: these three stylized robins felted from pure new wool can be used for many atmospheric purposes. They cut a particularly attractive figure in the Christmas tree.
After all, many a Christmas tree has a bird, which is a long-standing tradition. Its branches are filled with owls as birds of wisdom, doves as messengers of peace or the proud peacock as a symbol of resurrection and eternal life. The robin is attributed a special significance in this round dance. The Celts and Germanic tribes revered it as the bearer of the sun, which dyed its breast red. Christianity took up this myth and wove other legends around the sacred bird, such as this one:
At Christ's birth, an inconspicuous little brown bird was also present, curiously watching the goings-on in the stable at Bethlehem. As night fell and everyone fell into a deep sleep, only the little bird noticed that the fire that was supposed to keep the Christ child warm was about to go out. Chirping excitedly, the bird buzzed around the fireplace, fluttered its wings heroically and fanned the embers anew. But in doing so, he scorched his breast feathers and they remained stained red for all time.
Fairly combined. Gry & Sif
During her backpacking trip through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup was immediately captivated by the openness and warmth of the people - and by their craftsmanship. She was able to observe in detail how skillfully and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into Objekten. The idea of using this skill and combining Nepalese craftsmanship with Danish design was quickly born. And the idea was immediately followed by action.
Since 2000, the company Gry & Sif has been producing a wide range of products from wool felt in Nepal. The designs supplied by Gry Staunstrup are in typical Danish design, as striking as they are discreet and at the same time carefree and cheerful; the production is carried out by Nepalese women using traditional craftsmanship. Now Fair Trade certified, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages, good working conditions and transparency. Only pure new wool from New Zealand sheep is used for the felt products - each of which is unique and handmade.
