Herr und Frau Rio
During their studies in communication design at Munich University of Applied Sciences, Laura Sirch and Sascha Wellm, the duo behind Herr & Frau Rio, discovered risography for their projects. Originally developed by the Japanese company Riso in the 1980s, this process uses rice bran oil-based color inks and operates without heat transfer, which reduces energy consumption. The prints feature excellent color quality and texture.

Risography is one of the most energy-saving printing processes available. Similar to the screen printing process, master foils are produced from hemp fibers, which are then mounted on a drum and penetrated by the rice bran-based ink. Each card is unique: varying ink application and a slight offset are just as much a part of the printed image as the possible slight color abrasion.
