General Information

The power of life

Whether cotoneaster or rowan, hawthorn or snowball: in the fall, they produce red berries that are an important source of food for animals throughout the winter. In view of such fertility, even in the dark season, human culture attached special significance to their color. Even in pre-Christian nature symbolism, the bright red stood for special vitality in analogy to the color of human blood. In Christian symbolism, red stands above all for the blood of Christ and thus for redemption - and so red berries also play an important role in the Christmas tradition.

This door wreath picks up on this tradition and stands out as a decorative element thanks to its subtle, delicate design. The berries sit on delicate branches that spread out from the triple-twisted central wreath ring - thanks to a solid wire inside, they can be bent in all directions. The door wreath can therefore be made to appear more opulent by wrapping the branches tightly around the central ring. You can let the individual branches extend inwards and outwards just as effectively, giving the wreath an unobtrusive lightness. You can even lay two wreaths on top of each other and weave them together to combine greater density with climbing elegance. Unlike natural berries and twigs, this wreath, felted by hand from pure New Zealand wool, has withered and faded and will enhance your festive arrangements for many seasons to come - on doors, walls and windows as well as on the festive table.

After all, wreaths are versatile and their use is probably as old as human heads and dwellings. While they were originally placed around a person's head or neck as a sign of reverence, admiration and greeting, the circular shape of the door wreaths in our modern homes is a sign of the constant return of the seasons, which are revealed in the respective wreath decorations.

Fairly combined. Gry & Sif

During her backpacking trip through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup was immediately captivated by the openness and warmth of the people - and by their high level of craftsmanship. She was able to observe in detail how skillfully and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into Objekten. The idea of using this skill and combining Nepalese craftsmanship with Danish design was quickly born. And the idea was immediately followed by action.

Since 2000, the company Gry & Sif has been producing a wide range of products from wool felt in Nepal. The designs supplied by Gry Staunstrup are in typical Danish design, as striking as they are discreet and at the same time carefree and cheerful; the production is carried out by Nepalese women using traditional craftsmanship. Now Fair Trade certified, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages, good working conditions and transparency. Only pure new wool from New Zealand sheep is used for the felt products - each of which is unique and handmade.

Note:

Certain manufacturing steps are carried out by hand. Slight dimensional and color deviations may therefore occur.
