Kreis Ledermanufaktur in Offenbach crafts this belt from an incomparably strong and durable leather that is otherwise used only in technical applications. It is English oxhide (from the back) with a thickness of 6–8 mm, undyed and vegetable-tanned. No other leather possesses such thickness and toughness. The edges of the belt are sanded, singed, and then polished with gum arabic to create a smooth, hard edge. The belt is bulky and requires correspondingly spacious belt loops. The brass buckle is sand-cast and silver-plated. The year of manufacture is stamped into each belt.

Founded in 1963 by Erich Kreis, the Offenbach-based leather manufacturer Kreis specialized in belts early on. Today, Bernd Kreis, the founder's son, runs the business. He only uses full-grain leather: classic Boxcalf and pit-tanned cowhide from Germany, Saddle from England and the legendary horse leather Shell Cordovan from the Horween® tannery in Chicago. And Kreis is one of the very few who still cultivates the elaborate art of three-layer belt construction for some of his handmade belts.

The belt length is the length from the inside edge of the belt buckle to the centre belt hole. This length should correspond to the waist size of the trousers.
