General Information

Spicy tubers: Ginger from Myanmar

Myanmar is a country that has been plagued by armed conflict since its independence in 1948 and is now slowly opening up to the world after decades of isolation and mismanagement. And although Myanmar is still struggling with internal tensions and even civil wars, there are also positive developments, for example in agriculture. For example, the women of the Ta'ang people in the mountainous Shan region grow fresh ginger roots among their tea plants. This mixed culture uses natural resources in a harmonious way: it ensures healthy growth and at the same time a stable and higher income for the women farmers. The tubers ripen in the soil for nine months. After harvesting, they are cut on site and gently dried. This ginger is wonderfully spicy and pleasantly aromatic - a tasty difference that you will immediately notice in your tea infusion.

Products from crisis regions: Conflictfood

Conflictfood is the name of the Berlin-based company run by Gernot Würtenberger and Salem El-Mogaddedi - and the name says it all. The two track down the best agricultural products in crisis regions and bring them to the German market. In line with the motto "Trade not Aid", they focus on sustainable change and long-term positive change through trade in places where trade is not a matter of course. They always build direct relationships without middlemen and pay their partners fair prices. In this way, they strengthen local economic structures in conflict regions, combat poverty and create peaceful prospects.
