Refreshing and sparkling—sometimes it just has to be sparkling wine. Whether it’s champagne, Sekt, Cava, Prosecco, or Crémant, for festive occasions, when celebrating with friends, or with loved ones, a glass of bubbly is simply a must for many. Especially when entertaining a large group, several bottles are quickly opened so that all guests can toast right away—and in the end, there’s often an opened bottle left with plenty of wine still inside. What now? Some people resort to the famous “spoon trick,” only to discover the next day that the aroma and carbonation have escaped after all. With the right closure, however, opened bottles of sparkling wine can be resealed reliably and securely. Our sparkling wine stopper comes—how could it be otherwise—from a region with a long tradition of sparkling wine production. It is manufactured entirely in France, more specifically in Thiers, at a workshop specializing in fine forged goods such as cutlery, corkscrews, champagne sabers, and sommelier knives. The manufacturer, known for its artisanal quality, named the stopper after Napoleon Bonaparte, who once said: “ «Je ne peux vivre sans champagne … » ” (“I cannot live without champagne…”). The shape is also inspired by Napoleon: made of stainless steel, the object—with its round headpiece and two open prongs—is reminiscent of the “double-pointed hat.” This narrow hat replaced the tricorn as the headgear of officers. When Napoleon casually wore the bicorne sideways, it became his trademark. Our stopper, which originates from France, is simply placed over the bottle opening, pressed down, and secured with the two prongs. It is designed to withstand the pressure inside the bottle and reliably seal in the carbonation. When stored in the refrigerator, the sparkling wine remains fresh and effervescent for several days, even after the first opening.
