This rug is part of a textile series for which recycled PET is used. The material is dirt-repellent and easy to care for, it is light and weather-resistant and can therefore also be used outdoors. The cheerful, colorful rug not only puts people in a good mood in the hallway, kitchen and bathroom, but also on the patio or balcony. And a plus point for barefoot walkers in summer: the soft fabric feels very comfortable underfoot.

PET plastic bottles, which are still produced in large quantities but are not recycled to the same extent, are hard-wearing, waterproof and durable. This gave Tina and Asad Mirza from the Hamburg-based design label liv interior the idea of producing carpets and home textiles from recycled PET. After all, these properties make them much more versatile than home textiles made from natural materials such as cotton or new wool. Moisture cannot harm them, so they can also be used on balconies and patios. The fabric can be wiped clean and the rugs and textiles can easily be washed in the washing machine and are then dry again in a flash. The feel is also impressive: you will hardly notice any difference compared to cotton. The PET fabric just seems to be woven a little more tightly and feels surprisingly soft.

The home textiles and carpets are manufactured in India. The PET bottles collected there are mechanically shredded in recycling plants, the flakes are cleaned of labels and other residues, melted down and pulled into long threads. Like threads made from natural materials, these can also be twisted into yarn and wound onto bobbins. A carpet, for example, requires 100 to 750 recycled PET bottles, depending on the size. The textiles are woven by hand, so there may be slight variations in size (±5%). There are sometimes knotted thread ends on the back of the mats and carpets, which are caused by a change of thread. This does not affect the quality of the fabric.
