This device was patented in 1888 for the Englishman H. S. Heeley and trades in corkscrew history as "Heeley's Double Winged Lever Corkscrew A1". The force is transmitted to the cork with a lever ratio of about 3:1 and pulls it with the greatest of ease and - thanks to a centering ring in the bell - extremely cleanly. The top model of Monopol has hardened steel threads, a cork stripper, and is praised in unison in the many corkscrew sites on the Internet as "the best double lever corkscrew availaible today."

The Monopolwerke, founded in 1879 in Steinbach Hallenberg, Thuringia, established its worldwide reputation with the production of corkscrews (and thus at the same time the reputation of Thuringia as the cradle of German corkscrew production). Even after the move to Marburg in Hesse, Monopol has remained committed to the production of the highest quality "opening technology": to this day, technically sophisticated, perfectly crafted can openers and corkscrews leave the Wittelsberg production site. Since 2005, the Monopol brand has been part of Westmark GmbH.
