Monkeys are so-called active carriers: The young animals cling to their mother with their hands and feet and allow her to carry them around - like this young monkey, which looks happily and interestedly into the world from its mother's back, while the mother climbs up the vine (or climbing rope).

Seiffen in the Saxon Ore Mountains has been a center of woodcarving since the 19th century. Our climbing figures are also made there, in the GDR era from plastic and since reunification from wood. The special feature of these figures is that they are attached to the middle of a polyamide thread using a sophisticated technique and can climb up this thread by pulling the two ends of the string apart several times. These are fitted with a loop and a wooden ball to prevent the figure from climbing beyond its goal. Once it reaches the end, it can simply be pulled down again to start the ascent all over again.

As with many things, there have been numerous copies of climbing figures on the market in the past, but they never reached the quality of the original and soon disappeared again. Our producer is therefore not only the inventor of the figures, but also their only manufacturer - he produces them entirely in his own factory. The mountaineer is - unsurprisingly - the oldest of his models.
