General Information

Scissor lights: practical and variable

In 1952, Erik Hansen, Le Klint's chief designer at the time, designed the first scissor wall lights, which were soon to become Le Klint's trademark. We offer two versions of the now large family of so-called sax lamps: a downward-emitting version that is predestined as a reading lamp (type 233) and a version that is both upward-emitting and downward-reflecting (type 234), which is ideal as a table lamp. The scissor and wall bracket of both lamps are made of smoked oak, while the hand-folded shades are made of natural paper from the Gmund handmade paper factory on Lake Tegernsee. With a maximum projection of 90 centimetres - at a right angle to the wall, as the scissor arm cannot be swivelled - they are also suitable for general room lighting.

Le Klint. Scandinavian in design, quality and mentality

Le Klint is one of the few lighting manufacturers with a recognizable design signature. The company, based in Odense, Denmark, was founded in 1943 by Tage Klint, son of architect Peder V. Jensen Klint and brother of furniture designer Kaare Klint, and named after his daughter Lise Le Charlotte Klint. It is characteristic of Le Klint not only to work on its own designs, but also to collaborate time and again with renowned designers - many of whom also bore the name Klint.

However, there is another reason why the combination of head and hand, tradition and high technology as well as Danish design has resulted in a lighting range of the highest quality over the years and decades. Jan Klint, managing director until 1989, converted the family shares into a foundation as early as 1972. In this way, Le Klint has been able to maintain its high standards and local production in Odense to this day - unaffected by cheap mass production, price and wage dumping or outsourcing. In this way, Le Klint has succeeded in maintaining the unique skills of its highly specialized workforce while at the same time developing technically and creatively through training, scholarships and cooperation with renowned designers.

The use of folded handmade paper as a material for the lampshades is an example of how much of this was forward-looking right from the start - which ensures a specific, recognizable aesthetic and also makes ecological sense. And even if not all Le Klint designs today come with paper shades, some still do - including the ones we offer.
