General Information

A rural cutting edge. Laguiole.

In the French region of Aveyron a young man was considered to have come of age when he received his own Laguiole. Along with the knife he was advised to close the knife with both hands and not simply to snap it shut – which is still considered improper today. This wisdom was crystalized in the saying "ressort silencieux vivra vieux" (or: " close it without making any noise and it will live longer "). These knives come from the "Forge de Laguiole". Their T12 steel blades are forged individually and hardened (56–57 HRC). Each knife is manufactured from beginning to end by one knife master.

A country knife. Laguiole.

In the old days, in the French region of Aveyron, it was considered an admission to adulthood when a young man got his own Laguiole; and the good advice to close the blade with both hands in a controlled motion and not just let it snap shut - which is still considered indecent today - was condensed by the vernacular into the proverb "ressort silencieux vivra vieux" (in free translation: "Without a snapping sound, the blade lives longer"). These specimens come from the "Forge de Laguiole". Their blades of T12 steel are individually forged and hardened (56-57 HRC). The manufacture of a knife is in the hands of only one knifemaker from start to finish.
