General Information

Beautiful zippered pouches, handwoven in Japan using the traditional Kurume Kasuri technique—developed by Studio Robinson in collaboration with the historic Japanese workshop Okamoto Shoten in Kurume.

Kurume Kasuri is a time-honored Japanese textile weaving technique from the Kurume region on the island of Kyushu, invented around 1800 by the young weaving pioneer Inoue Den. The defining feature of this craft is its elaborate production process, which involves over 30 individual steps: Before weaving, sections of the cotton threads are intentionally tied off and dyed with natural indigo. Since the protected sections remain white, the subsequent weaving process creates the typical, artfully blurred patterns that resemble delicate, hand-painted miniatures. Due to its historical significance and artisanal precision, the technique was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property in Japan in 1957.
