General Information

Incense Powder. Based on a historical recipe

A “royal” incense blend that Waldweihrauch founder Florian Gruber encountered time and again during his research is “Königsräucherpulver.” It traces its origins to a 19th-century French recipe. Its name does not stem from the fact that this incense blend was popular at court or reserved exclusively for kings and queens, but rather from the exquisite ingredients that were—and still are—little treasures: spices, flowers, roots, balms, and essential oils.

The recipe for this Royal Incense Powder was created by Elisabeth Célnard. The intense, spicy-floral scent relaxes and promotes a sense of calm. The incense blend contains cassia, cloves, nutmeg, tonka beans, Florentine violet root, calamus root, rose and lavender blossoms, the essential oils of clove, bergamot, lavender, and thyme, as well as black Peruvian balsam. The incense powder should not be burned at too high a temperature. Incense bowls with a sieve and sand or our Granicium® incense burners are suitable for burning this incense. A hot plate or a tiled stove can also be used. The Royal Incense Powder is then gently warmed and releases a soothing, relaxing fragrance that creates a cozy atmosphere. It must not be placed directly on coals. If you do burn it with coals, you must reduce the heat by placing a layer of ash between the coals and the incense.

Tradition Unites. The Waldweihrauch Incense Manufactory

The Austrian incense manufacturer Waldweihrauch combines two traditions: incense burning and pitch-making. The ancient craft of pitch-making is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, though it is rarely practiced anymore. Extracted from the resin of black pines, pitch was once an important raw material. It serves as the basis for the incense that Waldweihrauch founder Florian Gruber and organic farmer and wild herb expert Angelika Gruber craft by hand. The two cultural anthropologists discovered their passion for incense in their youth and expanded their knowledge of incense ingredients and their effects during their numerous travels through Europe, India, and Southeast Asia.
