These cheerful, colorful everlasting flowers add vibrant splashes of color to your flower beds. Just as they delight our eyes and spread good cheer all year round, they also magically attract insects in the garden by serving as a resting spot where they can refresh themselves. That’s the idea: filled with a (generous) sip of water, bees, butterflies, and other insects can drink from these flowers without drowning or risking injury.

The glass flowers are primarily handmade using a technique known as fused glass. To create them, the glass mixture is first melted in a kiln at temperatures ranging from about 800 to 900 °C. Templates specially made for this purpose are needed to shape the very hot, viscous, transparent mass into the natural forms of large flower blossoms. The process then continues through various manual steps, during which the glass surfaces are carefully refined, the edges of the glass calyxes are polished to a mirror-like finish, and the calyxes are hand-painted in many layers. The paint is applied with a brush and is completely waterproof, as the colors are fired onto the glass much like a ceramic glaze. For this final step, temperatures of approximately 700 °C are reached once again in the kiln. This allows the glass flowers to remain outdoors all year round. How lovely: In summer, they compete in brilliance with the blooms of your ornamental dahlias, perennials, and shrubs, and during the cold season, they outshine the brown, withered, and faded parts of the plants. The colorful flowers are screwed onto equally weather-resistant stainless steel rods half a meter long. The screw thread is concealed in the center by a round dot of black copper, which is affixed like a stamp.

Our tip: Only in winter should you make sure that no water collects in the calyxes of the large glass flowers. This will help prevent any frost damage from the start.

Certain manufacturing steps are carried out by hand. Slight dimensional and color deviations may therefore occur.
