These gaiters are exceptional: Made from durable, water-repellent virgin wool loden (3 mm thick) and cowhide leather, they keep you warm while also offering protection from snow and mud, as well as thorns and branches, when you’re walking through rugged terrain. But this natural material offers yet another advantage: it is lightweight and “silent.” Nothing rustles when you wear or handle them, and they make hardly any noise that could scare away animals—which is, of course, particularly advantageous for wildlife observation in nature. Thanks to these properties—durable, lightweight, and quiet—loden has long been used in forestry and hunting for bags, backpacks, and clothing. The loden used here comes from the “ Gebrüder Mehler ” cloth factory in the Upper Palatinate, which you may already be familiar with from our product range. Made from New Zealand (mulesing-free) virgin wool, this loden features a fabric weight of 1,080 g/sqm; it is robust, breathable, and naturally water-repellent. This is due to the fulling process, which further compacts the fabric. The oiled nubuck leather used for the straps is also a natural material. After tanning, it is simply oiled. Moisture and wetness can therefore leave marks.

To ensure you can always put on and take off the gaiters easily, they feature a zipper. You only need to adjust all the straps the first time to ensure the gaiters fit perfectly. Follow these steps:

1. Put on the gaiters with the zipper on the inside of your leg.

2. First, thread the small leather strap under the sole and fasten it with the roll buckle at the widest setting. Use the small hook rivet at the front to secure the gaiter to the shoelace running underneath it.

3. Only then should you fasten the gaiters using the straps and roll buckles—from the bottom up—at the back of the calf. Once everything fits well, you can tighten the strap under the shoe further if needed.

Now everything is customized to fit your calf, and you can open and close the gaiters using the zipper. We offer two models; the larger one is designed for particularly thick calves with a circumference of about 45–49 cm.
