The intelligent Werkhaus construction principle is astonishingly simple and needs no tools for assembly: The robust, shape-retaining HDF (high-density fiberboard) elements consist of panels made from fine wood fiber, glue and water. Precisely cut with CNC machines, the pieces fit together easily. You connect them by inserting a peg notched on both sides of one panel through a slot in a second panel. Then you fasten the peg with a rubber ring. The resulting lightweight units are astonishingly stable – despite relatively thin walls. While highly practical in use, they tolerate dismantling and reassembling at any time.
The reversible connection technology, the choice of materials and the machine manufacturing process allow for the construction of complex, at the same time very inexpensive products predestined for sales displays in stores and trade fairs. Unsurprisingly, this kind of furniture rapidly became the main business of the 1992 founded firm.

Thanks to the precise cutting and the clean machine processing, the affordable furnishings can be constructed from only 3 to 6 mm thin boards. Such furniture would be much more difficult and therefore much more expensive to produce by carpenters. Besides, the visible plug-in connections of peg, wedge and rubber rings create a unique design language, particularly evident in the monochrome versions.
