Do you recognize it? The electric contact grill from Milantoast has been a fixture in bars and cafés throughout Italy since the 1960s. It is the original: the first contact grill ever developed and manufactured in Italy. A classic catering appliance, heavily built, with cast iron grill plates in a solid stainless steel housing. The Milantoast contact grill is now also available from us in a version with significantly larger, rectangular grill plates - the family and guest-friendly version, so to speak. As is usual with the Milantoast, the grill plates are factory-fitted with a protective layer of ceramic (instead of plastic) and can therefore withstand higher temperatures (up to 300 °C). So whether you opt for the version of this contact grill with a smooth grilling surface at the bottom and a ribbed grilling surface at the top or for the version with ribbed grilling surfaces on both sides depends (almost) entirely on your grilling preferences.

We recommend the "ribbed/fluted" version above all for preparing panini, the classic Italian-style grilled sandwiches, and for cooking delicate food (fish, prawns, white meat). You can also try grilling cheese, vegetables (such as green asparagus) or sweets (banana in the peel, pineapple in slices) with this appliance. The "smooth/ribbed" version is yours if - apart from panini - you like to eat steak, burgers and grilled eggplant (or zucchini). However, tofu, eggs and small sausages (including vegetarian ones) can also be grilled on the lower, smooth grill plate.

Either way, with both appliances, excess frying fat collects in a drip tray during grilling. The included cleaning brush makes it easier to clean the grill plates afterwards.
