Patented in 1955 by Beckland in Lünen, this virtually indestructible wire mesh mat consists of an exceptionally strong, galvanized wire mesh (wires Ø 2 mm, frame Ø 6 mm), which gives the mat its shape and stability while also protecting the round brushes made of extra-coarse, extremely durable, natural coconut fibers. Its cleaning power is impressive: sand, dirt, and snow are all thoroughly removed. Thus, the mat performs excellently not only at the front door but also at the garden entrance or in front of the civil engineer’s office container. Even when covered in snow, it’s immediately ready for use again simply by flipping it over. Thanks to its open construction, the top of the mat stays clean (dirt falls through) and dries very quickly; a rubber backing makes it slip-resistant. The 25-mm-thick mat is not self-supporting, so it must rest on a level surface. Beckland has the mat manufactured on the original machines in the coconut fiber growing region of Sri Lanka.
