For this broom handle, the ash wood undergoes a thermal treatment to permanently protect it from the effects of weather such as heat and moisture. This extremely simple and environmentally friendly method does not require any chemical additives: The wood is simply heated. At 180-220 °C, it changes and "caramelizes", so to speak, resulting in its typical dark brown color. Some components of the cell walls (hemicellulose) are broken down, transformed and recrystallized. The remaining elements close the cavities. After this cell transformation, the wood hardly absorbs any water, which is why it does not swell or shrink even when exposed to high levels of moisture - meaning it loses its natural tendency to warp and crack. Thermowood is therefore ideal for things that frequently come into contact with water or are exposed to wind and weather. Brooms made of thermowood can therefore be left outside. For even longer durability, however, it is advisable to store the broom handle in a dry place.

The broom handle fits the Andrée Jardin thermowood broom and therefore comes without a thread. Assembly is very simple: take the broom (not included) and the handle in your hands and place the end of the broom handle in the aluminum holder of the broom, then turn the handle clockwise to tighten it. Then position the broom on the floor between your feet so that they can hold the broom in place and turn the handle clockwise again (preferably with both hands) until it is completely secure. As the handle has no thread, the more forcefully you turn the handle, the tighter it will sit in the aluminum holder.

The French family business Andrée Jardin has been manufacturing brushes and brooms since 1947. The fact that here not only the company and the craft knowledge have been passed down for three generations, but especially the passion for brush making, can be seen in every single product. In traditional production - many steps, such as drawing in the trim fibers, are still carried out by hand - durable brushes and brooms that sweep well over the long term are created from sustainable raw materials. For example, beech and ash wood from sustainably managed forests in the region is used for the brush bodies. The respective trimmings also consist of natural materials such as plant fibers, pig bristles or horse hair.
In 2012, the grandsons of founder Georges-René Julio took over the family business and renamed it in honor of their grandmother Andrée Jardin. The range was also expanded in the process and they manufacture more utensils for household needs.
