There are good reasons why our bird dumplings do not have the usual plastic casings. This is because they are no longer a source of danger for the birds, as they can't get caught on something disturbing while eating and possibly die. And the garden owner will be pleased to no longer have to pick packaging waste from trees, bushes and flower beds.

With a mixture of nutritious cereal flakes, seeds, sunflower seeds, peanuts and dried berries, these bird dumplings provide highly digestible fat, minerals and vitamins. They also contain insects, which are valuable for the protein supply and are readily eaten by all soft-bodied birds. Young birds are even dependent on insects for healthy development, but often no longer find sufficient live food in urban gardens. The food dumplings can be offered all year round. In this form, the mixture is less sensitive to damp weather than loose food.

Natural habitats for wild animals are increasingly disappearing in our tidy landscape. One problem is that the natural food resources are being cut back along with the hunting grounds. Nuts, fruit, seeds or insects are often no longer available in sufficient quantities, and so year-round supplementary feeding in the garden - especially in urban areas - is now a contribution to species conservation. Our native songbirds benefit from this, as do hedgehogs and squirrels as small mammals.

The ready-made feed offered here comes from a specialist in the Palatinate, who only uses natural, GMO-free raw materials for his feed. The family business was founded by a master glazier who was a keen birdwatcher in his spare time. He started the business in 1904 with a small mealworm farm and soon also produced feed mixtures for insect-pecking garden birds and other special feed for wild animals.
