Lambskins are among the most comfortable of all underlays. On the one hand, they increase well-being by providing an extremely pleasant, soft cushion to lie on. On the other hand, they ensure a pleasant sleeping climate because they absorb a lot of moisture. As the skins are also temperature-regulating - warming in winter and cooling in summer - they can be used all year round. We obtain our lambskin bed topper from the Hofbrucker tannery in the Bavarian Forest. First-class skins from black-headed sheep are processed there. The lambskins are tanned using purely vegetable tanning agents made from olive leaves. The bitter substances they contain not only protect the olive tree against pests and rot, but are also suitable as a tanning agent. Only the olive leaves that are left over from the annual pruning and would otherwise be burnt are used to produce the tanning agent. A syrupy tanning agent is produced from them under food conditions, which could even be tasted if it were not so bitter. Finally, no other substances are required for tanning, which is why it is one of the most environmentally friendly tanning processes of all. The skins tanned in this way are also absolutely harmless to people and the environment. As they are also very kind to the skin, they are particularly suitable as bedding. The olive leaf tanned skins have a soft leather side and a very light, almost white wool coat, so they are significantly lighter in color than most other tanned skins. To make bed underlays from the lambskins in the size of 90 × 200 cm that we offer, several skins with the same structure must be put together.

The Hofbrucker tannery in the Bavarian Forest is one of the few companies that still have a fully integrated production in Germany. From the processing of the rawhide to the confection and to control of the final product - everything is done under one roof. If the coat is slightly soiled, it can be treated with a damp cloth and a wool care product or hair shampoo. The water must not penetrate the leather. In general, the leather side must not come into contact with water. For heavier soiling, professional cleaning in a tannery is recommended.
