Nine strips of birch wood, cleanly deburred and finely sanded, form this simple yet beautiful bath mat. The slats are rounded on the top and bottom so that the water can run off easily and does not remain on the wood. This means that the mat can be used on both sides without any problems. The birch slats are held together by a rope made of hemp and flax rather than the usual plastic. To make it durable and resistant to moisture and humidity, the finished rope is soaked in tree resin, which initially gives off a slight resinous odor, but which fades over time. The birch wood is oiled and the birch wood bath mat is made by Swedish craftsman Iris Hantverk. The small workshop employs a total of 14 people, five of whom are visually impaired. Iris Hantverk also cooperates with an Estonian association for the blind.
