Welcome: Spring Green
You don't necessarily need a garden to awaken spring. No matter how small the space, your green visions can become reality. Flowers, herbs and vegetables can be grown in our balcony boxes and balcony raised beds. Even fruit trees and berries can be cultivated on balconies and patios. We have the right accessories as well as seeds and young plants of special species and varieties that will not only delight you with their abundance of flowers, but also inspire humming and buzzing guests.
Growing fruit and vegetables on the balcony
Not everyone has a garden where they can plant large fruit trees and berry bushes. But even if you have a terrace or balcony, you don't have to do without home-grown fruit and vegetables. Many varieties also grow in containers. A large container with a capacity of around 50 liters is ideal. A balcony box that is as wide as possible is also suitable as a container. Important: tubs or boxes should have a hole so that excess water can drain away.
When planting in balcony containers, it is advisable to first fill in a 4-5 cm thick drainage layer (of expanded clay, clay shards or gravel). This ensures that water can drain away easily and does not accumulate in the container, i.e. in the plant's root zone, during prolonged rainfall. When selecting the substrate, make sure it is of very good quality; it must be structurally stable, should contain a slow-flowing depot fertilizer and - for environmental reasons - contain as little peat as possible, preferably none. Before inserting the plant, carefully loosen the root ball or score it with a knife; shorten roots that are too long. When filling in the substrate, make sure that the cavities between the root ball and the pot wall are carefully closed. Finally, the plant should be pressed down firmly and watered thoroughly.

View moreWhen choosing the right planter, you need to consider a few things. First of all, it depends on which plant is to be placed in it - roses, for example, root more in depth than in width and therefore require tall, rather slender vessels. Another criterion is the location: For outdoor containers, you should generally look for durable frost-resistant material, and for those made of metal, also for rust protection, and wooden containers should be made of durable, domestic woods.
