Angels are unfathomable beings. They swoop down from heaven in battle or float down gracefully, they wield fearsome swords of flame or appear meekly as messengers of God. At Christmas time, it is clearly joy that reigns: with the Good News that Archangel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary, and not least on the night of Jesus' birth, when an angel delivers the joyful news to the shepherds.

The translucent, shimmering green forest glass from which this angel in a simple pleated robe is steadfastly made emphasizes the divine ethereal grace and at the same time underscores its inscrutability. As such a figure of light, the forest glass angel at Christmas completes the decoration of Advent wreath, windowsill and Co - and can appear as a guardian angel throughout the year.

In the Farbglashütte Lauscha in the south of the Thuringian Forest, the original type of the famous Thuringian Forest Glass is blown and cast. The glass owes its characteristic green shimmer to the high proportion of iron oxides in the sands of the Thuringian Forest. This sand, potash and lime are used to melt the raw material for this highly prized glass specialty. Typical for the Thuringian Forest glass are also the so-called Gispen, air bubbles enclosed in the glass, which characterize the original manufacturing process before the smelting furnace, which has been handed down for centuries.
