General Information
Jack of all trades for household and personal care. One for all
To call it simply a curd soap would not do it justice, because in terms of quality it is far superior to the basic soaps usually made from inferior fats. The "Sapun ghar" (Arabic for "laurel oil soap"), known to us as Aleppo soap, is not only made from the best olive oil, but is also enriched with the oil from the berries and leaves of the real laurel. It combines the areas of application of curd soap with those of the fine soaps used for body care - and with the best results. For all those who intend to take advantage of the many possibilities, here comes a whole kilogram of soap curd with (usually) five bars of Aleppo soap. The nourishing properties of the soap for body and facial skin, especially for sensitive skin types, are widely known. It can also be used as a shampoo, not only but especially for dry or damaged hair, or for shaving.
Less common (at least here in our country), however, is the fact that Aleppo soap is also able to care for the laundry. Grated and dissolved in hot water, it serves as an additive-free detergent substitute for any kind of textiles. Linen swells up again when washed with Aleppo soap, gaining more shine and becoming smoother. Stains or bubbly shirt collars can also be pretreated well: Slightly moisten the soap block and rub it over the affected areas. In addition, Aleppo soap, simply placed in the closet, keeps away clothes moths or, mixed as a watery solution, fights pests such as aphids. You can find more applications, for example, in the book "Five home remedies replace a drugstore", which we also carry in our assortment. This Aleppo soap comes from the last company that still produces within the city limits of Aleppo.
Quite original: plant soap from Aleppo
Aleppo, the biblical city of Helbon in present-day Syria, is the Arab birthplace of the art of making fine soaps from vegetable oils. These soaps come from one of the few soapmaking factories near Aleppo that are still producing today, despite the civil war. They are produced in the old, artisanal process of multiple boiling "on new water", which is completed when the boiling master tests the finished, "salted" soap in a "tasting". The skin-friendly soap comes in classic block form and is equally suitable for the care of hands, body and face. It is based on olive oil from the first cold pressing, which is gently saponified in a kettle oven at 95 °C. The soap is then cooled and matured. Finally, to cool and mature, the bars of soap bearing the manufacturer's seal rest in semi-open vaults for at least nine months, during which time they lose much of their weight and change color from green to yellowbraun.
